Pinewood Derby

We have arrived at a new point in our lives. Tyler is now participating in the pinewood derby. It took us a couple of weeks from start to finish to do this car and we had all sorts of help. First, Ty chose a design and we cut it out.

Of course it had to be sanded - and that took a lot of work.

Tyler primed it and painted it and put stickers on it

The night of the derby arrived - this past wednesday the 27th. The gym was all set up. Lots of weighing of cars and adjusting. Putting on and taking off weights.

I think Tyler was pretty nervous

Is it going to make it down the track?

IT DID! Hooray! Ty did an excellent job on his car. He came in second a couple of times and even first once. He wasn't the overall winner, but he did such a great job and we were proud of him!

Here are a few pictures of how the finished car came out.

Haircuts

Last week I finally decided I was tired of fighting with McKenna and Kylie and their hair. Lots of snarls and combing it and trying to fix it. I decided we wanted to make it a little shorter. Here are some before shots. Granted, these aren't great photos - their hair looks kind of messy and it doesn't show how long it actually was - but you get the general idea.

Anyway, so I take them to Evans and while it is a beauty college, I haven't ever had a problem with them before. Both of the girls who were doing the hair cutting, I told them that I wanted it below their shoulders and I even pointed exactly where I wanted it cut. Not too confusing right? That's what I thought. About a half hour later, one of the girls came out to me and started apologizing. She was cutting Kylie's hair and told me that Kylie was slouching and it was a lot shorter then it should have been. YIKES! My heart starts beating fast and I think I am going to have a panic attack. It was short, but Kylie still loved it and it was curled. Ok, I guess I will be ok. Kylie is ok with it, I shouldn't stress about it and I kept thinking that at least it wasn't McKenna's that was short. She would freak out! Another half hour goes by and McKenna comes out. I was in shock - to say the least. I decided not to tip the girls, which I never do - but I wasn't happy at all. All the way home and later as we were going back to the place to have them try and fix McKenna's - McKenna cried. She was so worried that people were going to make fun of her. She was also upset because she loves sports and to not be able to pull it back was awful. A very traumatic thing for both of us. I know these pictures just show the front of their hair - but McKenna's especially is extremely short in the back. I can't really play with it too much. It is just super short.

Well, a week and some days have past. McKenna has gotten used to her hair and actually likes it now. Which makes me feel a lot better. Anyway, that was our traumatic hair cutting experience!
